Porsche 911 Street Setup Notes
A denied warranty claim led me to Ohlins Road and Track, and a better car than I started with.
I wasn't even in the market for new coilovers. My CPO-covered 911 Carrera S developed a leaky strut and the car had become bouncy and unsettled. Figured it would be a straightforward warranty claim. Wrong.
The warranty nightmare
Porsche denied my warranty claim because I had aftermarket AP Racing brakes installed. Absolutely ridiculous. The brakes had nothing to do with a leaking strut, but that was their out. So now I was stuck footing the bill for suspension work I never planned on.
Finding the right solution
My buddy Cameron told me about Ohlins Road and Track. I was hesitant at first. I wasn't looking to build a track car, just fix my daily driver. But after researching all the available options and especially after comparing prices to the OEM replacement struts from Porsche, the Ohlins started to make a lot of sense. For not much more than stock parts, I could get something significantly better.
So I bit the bullet.
The result
The car is transformed. It's dynamic, super compliant over rough pavement, and incredibly adjustable. What started as a frustrating warranty denial turned into one of the best upgrades I've done. The 911 feels more planted and composed than it ever did on the factory suspension.
Fun fact: we initially thought Dallas, Texas just had bad roads because the ride was so harsh. Turns out the coilovers were already worn out. It got bad enough that my pregnant wife refused to drive the car because it was too uncomfortable. The new coilovers fixed all of that.
Sometimes getting screwed over leads you somewhere better.
